A longtime Frogtown business may relocate to the former St. Paul and Minneapolis Archdiocese (Chancery) building located at 226-230 Summit Ave. Leaflet Missal, which has been at 976 Minnehaha Ave. W. for many years, would occupy about one-third of the former chancery building if a need conditional use permit is approved.
The Summit building sat vacant for about a decade before it was purchased by the Cathedral of Saint Paul in June of this year.
Leaflet Missal would move in January 2026.
The property is zoned for residential use. The chancery use predates the current zoning. The conditional use permit is for reuse of a large structure, with Leaflet Missal in about one-third or 9,000 to 10,000 square feet of the Summit building.
Hours would be 9-5 Monday-Saturday, and closed on Sundays.
Leaflet Missal opened in 1929. In 1980, the Welvang family took over ownership and changed the company from a missal publishing company to a Catholic and religious goods retailer. It eventually expanded to selling a wide array of church goods.
No date has been set for Planning Commission action.
