Posted

Pedestrian safety improvements will be done at intersections along Hamline Avenue and Hoyt Avenue around the Chelsea Heights Elementary School in 2026 as part of the Safe Routes to School project.

The project will be installing curb extensions (bumpouts) and/or median islands and ADA compliant pedestrian ramps at each of the following intersections as part of the Chelsea Heights Elementary School Safe Routes to School plan:

  • Hamline Avenue and Hoyt Avenue
  • Hamline Avenue and Nebraska Avenue
  • Huron Street and Hoyt Avenue
  • Hamline Avenue and Arlington Avenue
  • Hamline Avenue and Frankson Avenue
  • Hamline Avenue and Midway Parkway

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a nationwide effort to make it safe, convenient, and fun for children to bicycle and walk to school. Safe Routes to School benefits students and communities. Walking or biking to and from school is an easy way for kids to get exercise, stay healthy, and arrive at school ready to learn. More kids walking and bicycling to school reduces traffic and air pollution near schools and helps to unite neighborhoods.
