The Hamline to Hamline Collaboration is finishing the year strong with some truly memorable and engaging learning experiences.
In early May, first graders participated in a fun-filled book reading and Q&A with Hamline alum, entrepreneur, and author, C.L. Stein. A few short days later, we held our much beloved all-school Field Day in partnership with Hamline University Athletics. Dozens of Hamline University athletes welcomed over 300 Hamline Elementary students to Klas Field to play volleyball, lacrosse, duck, duck, grey duck, and more. The event ended with a huge high-five tunnel and loads of smiles. A huge thank you to everyone involved for creating such a joyful and memorable day.
Our communications program, Snelling Connection, published their newspaper featuring writing from Hamline Elementary fourth and fifth graders. Students interviewed staff members and shared their opinions on everything from recess and field trips to littering, social justice, and the importance of art. We’re so proud of their efforts and encourage them to continue writing and sharing their perspectives.
The final collaboration event of the year is Onward and Beyond, an event that brings fifth graders to campus for a dorm tour and reflection activity as they prepare to say goodbye to Hamline Elementary. This year we’re thrilled to include a luncheon for these students, their educators, and university students, faculty, and staff who are connected to the fifth grade classes. We’re also grateful for the partnership of Hamline University’s Admissions office and their excellent campus tour guides who make this an event to remember.
As the year comes to a close, we’d like to thank everyone from Hamline Elementary and Hamline University who have made this year’s collaboration programs and events possible. We want to acknowledge the active support and participation of Hamline University staff and faculty and the excellent work of students who volunteer as mentors, work as tutors and the student workers who do so much to support the collaboration. We are also grateful to the Hamline Elementary staff who open their classrooms and work in partnership with our collaboration team. Together, we’re creating one-of-a-kind learning experiences and connections and can’t wait to do it all again next year!
