Molly Coleman runs for Ward 4 city council seat

Molly Coleman has announced her candidacy to represent Ward Four on the Saint Paul City Council. She currently lives in Saint Paul’s Hamline-Midway neighborhood with her husband and their son.

M. Coleman comes from a family of public servants. She is the daughter Chris Coleman, who served as St. Paul Mayor from 2006-2018. Her grandfather, Nicholas Coleman, Sr. served as State Senate majority leader from 1973 to 1981.

“Saint Paul is the greatest city in the country. That’s why I am raising my family here, and why I am motivated to ensure the promise and potential of our city is accessible to everyone. I’ve spent my career advocating for a system that works for working people,” said Coleman. “Now more than ever before, I’m seeing people losing faith in democracy. I am running for city council because I know that the best thing we can do to fight that lack of faith at the federal level is to make a real difference locally – and that means making sure people can build the lives they dream of right here in Saint Paul.”

Coleman’s platform prioritizes creating a Saint Paul that works for working people, including:
• Provides high-quality core services and is responsive to residents’ needs;
• Adds affordable and market-rate housing options for people across all income levels;
• Promotes safe streets and abundant pedestrian, biking, and transit options;
• Supports the workers who make our community thrive;
• Prioritizes proactive, community-focused public safety;
• Spurs new investment and development across our city.

“As your councilmember, first and foremost I want to focus on ensuring Saint Paul delivers our core public services well. But I’m also excited to partner with the city council and the mayor’s office to continue making progress on housing, transportation, workers’ rights, and so many of our shared priorities in Ward Four and across Saint Paul.”

A graduate of Saint Paul Public Schools, the University of Wisconsin, and Harvard Law School, Coleman is co-founder and executive director of People’s Parity Project, a national advocacy nonprofit started in 2018 that organizes lawyers and law students to build a legal system that works for working people. Born and raised in Saint Paul, Coleman engaged in local government and advocacy at an early age as the MYDFL high school chair and president of the Central High School Democrats. Prior to attending law school, Coleman spent three years with City Year New York, working to close the educational opportunity gap in Harlem and the Bronx and to empower a generation of civically engaged leaders.

Ward Four includes parts or all of the Hamline-Midway, Como Park, St Anthony Park, Union Park, and Mac-Grove District Councils. The seat was vacated by Mitra Jalali, who resigned in February 2025.
