Leader’s Journey 365: Inspiring and promoting civic engagement

Posted

History has shown us ordinary people can have an extraordinary impact on their community and society at large.
This begins with a call to leadership.
Leadership is an opportunity to leverage your influence, lift your voice, and build a collective vision for the future. Planting People Growing Justice launched the Leader’s Journey 365 portal to provide practical leadership development tools for Minnesotans.
I am very proud to have created this important resource for people throughout our state. It is a model that can easily be replicated by organizations in every state across the United States. The Leader’s Journey 365 portal is an essential and indispensable resource for training and information that supports civic engagement and participatory leadership.
Leadership is a journey often mistaken for a destination.
It is critically important that we model the behaviors and values that we want our children to emulate as adults. On the Leader’s Journey 365 portal, we provide tools, resources, and assessments to help inspire you and discover how you can exercise leadership by making a difference in your community.
You will develop key strategies for becoming an inclusive leader by challenging unconscious bias and microaggressions. You can serve as a leader by serving on councils, boards, and task forces. There are over 200 Boards, Commissions, Work Groups, Councils, and Taskforces. In addition, you can create change through voting, being counted in the U.S. Census, and establishing time banks in the community. You can serve as an election judge; there are also opportunities for youth to participate as student election judges.
There are dozens of ways that you can make a difference by connecting with issues that you are passionate about. You can work to make changes in the educational system or choose to effect reform in the criminal justice system. You can even run for an office yourself. You will discover how to do all those things at the Leader’s Journey 365 portal.
Knowledge is power and the portal offers books and downloadable content for children, along with a myriad of resources for adults. According to the U.S. Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, research demonstrates a direct correlation exists between improved access to education, healthcare, and economic stability in communities that have a high level of civic engagement. We are providing the resources to help you find ways to be involved in the creation of communities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion. You can play a key role in making that happen.
