Jonathan Oppenheimer thank you for doing all this research to find the truth and writing this excellent and very transparent article about the LACK of transparency happening with the SPPL, the City of St. Paul and sadly the misuse of the HMLA to cover up for there lies and hidden agenda for the libraries future.. The foundation problems to support an additional floor to the roof of the building IS POSSIBLE and more cost effective than demolition. An example of the very costly price of demolition, $$ wise and emotionally for the neighborhood is the most recent Demolition of the St. Andrews Church building in 2019. It cost TCGI school a lot more money to demolish that well built, beautiful, strong building than ever anticipated by them and the contractors they got the bids from. The neighborhood paid a big price also for the loss of this beloved building by ALL residents not just those who were formerly members of the former church. The disappointment of the TCGIS decision still leaves a dark cloud over the Como Park Community. Those who do not support the importance of he preservation of historic buildings say to get over it and move on. That is easier said than done when every time you look out your window, walk around the block or drive by the spot it once was the new building of the future is a reminder of your loss. If the SPPL and City of St. Paul that means all of the Depts, the City Council and Mayor Carter decide to destroy this historic building versus allowing it to be added to the list of Historically Preserved Buildings of St. Paul, MN., they will have to live with the dark cloud that will hang over another St. Paul Community. But may be they do not care about what their constituents that voted them into office think is important. There are a lot other projects that they supported and did not support that were against the constituents wishes and they did not seem to care. We need to remember this when we vote in November. Do we want to continue to have in office the people who do not listen to the residents of this city and support us with their choices? Or do we want to see some new faces that will preserve some very important architecturally non replaceable and Historic buildings that tell the story of our beginnings as the city of St. Paul? We need to be in control not them. They represent us and our taxes pay for their wages to represent us transparently not under the table in private meeting.
